O2 says Macbook bundle rumours ‘untrue’

September 29, 2016

O2 has denied rumours that it plans to offer subsidised Apple laptops alongside its mobile broadband.

Mobile Today reported on Thursday that O2 planned to join the ranks of operators giving away cheap laptops alongside their mobile and fixed line broadband products.

The report added that the operator had struck a deal with iPhone maker, Apple, to use Apple’s popular laptop – the Macbook – in its bundle deal.

Apple is well known for holding a tight grip on who can distribute its technology.

O2 already has strong ties with Apple, as it has an exclusive deal in the UK to supply Apple’s iPhone handset.

If the rumours are true, O2 will be the only mobile network in the UK offering Apple laptops, and would guarantee an increased take up of its mobile broadband.

Mobile Today also reports that a spokesperson for O2 has denied the rumour, saying the company has ‘no such plans’ and that the rumour is ‘untrue’.
